Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

CGK International School began in 2016 as a bilingual preschool named Cosmo Global Kids Bashamichi, Yokohama, opening with three two-year-old children. In 2020 the school was renamed Cosmo Global Kids International School as it expanded. In 2022 CGK became an IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) candidate school as part of its IB journey. In 2023 Kannai Campus expanded and relocated, creating a two-campus system with Bashamichi and Kannai and expanding to 12 classes. CGK was authorized as an IB World School for the PYP in July 2024, and in June 2025 CGK became an IB MYP candidate school; a high school is scheduled to open in April 2028.

Community

CGK's community has grown since its 2016 opening, with staff, students, and families pursuing high-quality care and education. The CGK community engages with local businesses and organizations to provide hands-on experiences and mutual development through activities and partnerships. The CGK community also supports international families and offers study abroad programs for students and staff, fostering exchange and global learning. Public events and partnerships include collaborations with local organizations, and Yokohama Excellence, a professional basketball team, is a CGK partner.

Parent-Teacher Association

CGK maintains a parent- and community-engagement framework within the CGK Community, reflecting ongoing family involvement since 2016. The CGK Community includes groups such as CGK Student's Families and International Families, and features events like the School Festival, Park Day, Italian Restaurant Visit, Parents' Social, and Social Night. The program also offers IB Info Sessions and collaboration with partner companies, organizations, and individuals to provide hands-on experiences for children. Parents contribute through activities such as special lessons by parents and field trips to companies and shops where they work, and CGK communicates with families via LINE with English and Japanese channels. Public Events and partnerships are listed as ongoing avenues for community involvement, including collaborations with local entities and programs like Yokohama Excellence.

CGK International School’s Bashamichi Campus is a preschool campus for Age 2 and Age 3 children located in Naka-ku, Yokohama. The campus is within walking distance of Bashamichi Station (about 3 minutes), as well as Sakuragicho and Kannai stations, making it accessible from central Yokohama and nearby areas. According to the school, CGK is an IB PYP World School and received authorization to deliver the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) in July 2024. The preschool programme includes structured physical education and monthly swimming lessons conducted at a nearby indoor heated pool. In addition to the core preschool programme, the school offers fee-based after-school optional classes from 4:30 p.m., such as Programming in English, Dance and Japanese-language programmes including Pygmalion and Ronri Engine. A school bus service is available for preschool students. CGK also notes that English is used as the main language at school, with Japanese taught as a subject, supporting children who are growing up in an international environment in Japan.
