Co-Curricular Activities at Nagoya International School extend learning beyond the classroom and offer students opportunities to explore interests and develop leadership. In the secondary grades, established clubs include Middle and High School Student Councils, Home Language Club, Global Issues Network, Yearbook Club, Model United Nations, NIS Homebuilders, and NIS Plan. Students are encouraged to start new clubs based on their interests, and offerings evolve as student-led groups form or wane. These activities support academic engagement through debate, global issues, leadership, and project work.
Dolphin Arts provides avenues for visual and performing arts across the school. Students can audition for and participate in annual plays and musicals and showcase their talents in various performances and events throughout the year. The program includes a range of arts-related clubs and productions, including past and current offerings such as NIS Musical.
Language development and cultural awareness are supported through Home Language Club and globally oriented activities. The Home Language Club offers language-focused participation, while Global Issues Network and Model United Nations contribute to international-mindedness and cross-cultural understanding. Additional clubs like Cli-Mates foster environmental awareness and global citizenship.
Elementary CCAs run after school every quarter, with information sent to families about registration. Activities include a mix of indoor and outdoor options, and the program is designed to offer both recreation and enrichment. There are also parent-led weekend options such as the Weekend Kids Sports Group for Grades 1-5, with activities like soccer, baseball, and flag football.
Community service and outreach are part of the student experience, with NHS (Nagoya Honor Society) recognizing scholarship, leadership, service, and citizenship, and coordinating volunteer activities. Other service-oriented groups include NIS Junior Red Cross and NIS Service Dog Helpers (JSDA), as well as programs such as NIS Homebuilders and Kidzuna that engage in outreach efforts.
Leadership opportunities are embedded through student councils—HSSC (High School Student Council) and MSSC (Middle School Student Council)—which organize events and represent student voice. Students can participate in or help run organizations such as PLAN NIS and Home Language Club, and they are encouraged to start and lead clubs based on interest. These structures cultivate skills in governance, project management, collaboration, and advocacy.
Dolphin Sports offers a range of middle and high school athletics, including volleyball, basketball, soccer, baseball/softball, badminton, and cross country, with the program running in quarters. The school participates in athletic associations such as the Western Japan Athletic Association (WJAA) and the East Asian International Schools Activities Conference (EAISAC), providing inter-school competition opportunities. Visual and performing arts programs also contribute to well-being through creative engagement and public performances.
Nagoya International School (NIS) is an international day school in Nagoya, Japan, established in 1964. It offers the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP). The campus includes specialist learning areas such as a design lab, science labs, and dedicated rooms for mathematics, music and art, alongside a sports field and playground. For transportation, students may use several school bus routes (subject to availability), including a shuttle that runs between NIS and JR Kozoji Station, which can support after-school participation and commuting by train.
