Extra-Curricular Activities

Clubs, activities, and opportunities to explore interests and passions

Academic and Intellectual

NIC's after‑school extracurricular offering is the Engage Programme. The content changes four times a year, and students select both an 'active' and a 'sedentary' option each quarter. Examples of Engage activities include photography, volleyball, weight training, yoga, ultimate frisbee, music, public speaking, and kyudo, with additional options available over time. This programme complements the IB Diploma Programme by linking Engage activities to Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) requirements.

Arts and Creative

Arts and creative activities are offered through the Engage Programme and related NIC events. Engage options include Photography, Manga, Creative Writing, Public Speaking, and Music, among other creative pursuits. In addition, NIC hosts in‑house evening activities such as Culture Language Exchange, Movie Night, and Game Night, which foster creative engagement and cross‑cultural expression.

Cultural and Language

Culture and language activities are supported by the Well‑being Programme's in‑house Culture Language Exchange nights, which promote language learning and cross‑cultural interaction. Cultural exchanges also occur within the boarding dormitories, celebrating international diversity. The campus provides a Language Center to support language learning and communication. NIC also hosts cultural events such as the Sagamine Festival, where students participate in activities and performances.

Social and Hobbies

Social and hobby activities are facilitated by both the Engage Programme and Well‑being Programme. Engage options cover a range of sports and leisurely pursuits, including Football, Basketball, Tennis, Manga, and Public Speaking. In addition, In‑house Evening Activities feature Culture Language Exchange, Game Night (including ping pong and board games), Movie Night, Seasonal Parties, and Sports Nights.

Community and Service

Community service is integrated into NIC's IB Diploma Programme through CAS (Creativity, Activity, and Service), which guides student involvement beyond academics. The Engage Programme and accompanying cultural exchanges also provide opportunities for service‑oriented activities and engagement with the broader community.

Leadership and Professional

Leadership development is a formal focus at NIC, with programs designed to build leadership skills through experiential learning and small‑class pedagogy. The Engage Programme also offers leadership opportunities and encourages collaboration across year levels. NIC emphasises leadership development as part of its approach to global citizenship and personal growth.

Lifestyle and Wellbeing

The Well‑being Programme runs Saturday workshops, in‑house activities, and excursions to support students' transition to Japan and Nagoya, social and self‑management skills, and examination preparation. The programme covers mindfulness, empathy, time management, and other life skills, with activities designed to promote mental and physical health. In‑house evenings include Culture Language Exchange, Game Night, Movie Night, Seasonal Parties, and Sports Nights, providing regular opportunities for relaxation and social connection.
