Academic and Intellectual

Oakwood Tokyo International School offers an after-school Adventure Play program from Monday to Friday, 3:00–6:00 p.m., for all ages and English levels. The program provides an afternoon of varied subjects with hands-on activities, including science experiments, singing and dancing with karaoke, and art projects, all conducted in English. Piano lessons are available by reservation for a small fee. The school is pursuing IB World School authorization as an IB-PYP Candidate School, and the elementary program emphasizes inquiry-based learning through a Unit of Inquiry that integrates science and social studies.

Arts and Creative

Adventure Play includes singing and dancing with karaoke and messy art projects. In preschool, daily schedules include Art/Music sessions, supporting creative expression from an early age. Piano lessons are available through the After School program for interested students. These offerings together foster artistic exploration as part of the school's regular activity rhythm.

Cultural and Language

The preschool schedule includes Japanese Class as part of the daily routine, integrating language learning with daily activities. The program emphasizes English language development using a scaffolding approach inspired by the WIDA model to prepare children for Grade 1 in international schools. Oakwood is located in Setagaya, Tokyo, serving an international community and operating entirely in English at the early-childhood level.

Social and Hobbies

The After School Adventure Play program provides structured time for social interaction through group activities, hands-on learning, and collaborative activities in a relaxed environment. Activities include science, art, and music experiences, fostering peer engagement and teamwork after classes. There are additional opportunities for extended programming, such as Saturday School, which offers extra sessions beyond the weekday program.

Lifestyle and Wellbeing

The school offers Working Parents Support as a full-day care option for families, extending care through the school day for busy parents. Preschool daily routines include outdoor time, with Outside Recess scheduled during the day. Adventure Play after school emphasizes active and creative time, supporting physical and mental well-being. Oakwood also runs Summer School with a play-based, science-forward theme such as From Nature to Nebulas, reinforcing hands-on exploration during breaks.
