History

Oakwood Tokyo International School opened in 2020 in Nakamachi, Setagaya, as an English-language nursery through kindergarten program. Shinjiro Yachi is the founder and owner of Oakwood Tokyo International School. The school is an IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) Candidate School. In April 2025, the school launched a Bridging to Elementary School program, followed by a full 1st through 3rd grade curriculum in September 2025. In September 2025, Oakwood Tokyo International Elementary School opened with Grade 1, expanding the school\'s offerings beyond early childhood.

The school employs a diverse staff from around the globe, creating a genuinely international community. Instruction is delivered in English in an English-only environment.
