Shinagawa International School offers a broad range of after-school programs (ASPs) that extend academic and intellectual development beyond the classroom. Examples include the Chinese Language Club, Model United Nations, Japanese language activities, Mindfulness Club, Home Economics, and a student-edited Newsletter. The school provides over 70 ASPs each week, with some activities delivered by external instructors and others that may involve material fees. ASPs run on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays to complement the core curriculum.
Arts and creative activities are available through ASPs and dedicated clubs. Current options include Arts and Crafts, Loom Bands and More, Book Illustration, Voice Training and Recording, Ballet, Origami, Drum/Percussion Ensemble, Hip-Hop Dance, Guitar, Sculpture, Drama Club, Robotics, Vision Math, Coding, Lego Construction Club, Directed Drawing, and Music Appreciation. These activities provide opportunities for collaboration and creative expression beyond classroom time. Some programs may involve external instructors and material fees.
Language learning is integral to SIS, with programs such as the Chinese Language Club and Japanese language activities. Model United Nations provides opportunities for international diplomacy and debate, and the student Newsletter supports cross-cultural communication. The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is a parent-led organization that coordinates events and offers volunteer leadership opportunities for families.
Student leadership opportunities include Model United Nations and other ASPs that emphasize communication and teamwork. Interdisciplinary Week Without Walls (ID WWW) offers a week-long immersive program that develops leadership, collaboration, and real-world problem solving. The PTA provides governance and volunteer leadership opportunities for families, contributing to school leadership beyond the classroom.
Wellbeing is supported through physical activity, including swimming classes for all PYP students (Preschool–Grade 5) at the Konami Sports Club pool, with weekly 45-minute sessions and additional external costs. ASPs include Yoga, Football, Table Tennis, Gymnastics, Taekwondo, Basketball, Volleyball, and Badminton, among other physical activities. Mindfulness Club and other wellness-focused offerings contribute to mental and emotional well-being as part of the program.
Shinagawa International School’s Aoyoko Campus is its Early Learning Center for children aged 3 to 5 in Minamishinagawa, Shinagawa (Tokyo). Children begin with the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) Early Years curriculum, which was introduced at this facility in 2025 and is delivered through a play-based approach that encourages curiosity, inquiry and exploration. The campus includes a safe outdoor playground for physical development, creativity and social interaction. SIS teaches in English (with Japanese taught as a subject) and the school also offers a school bus service with features such as GPS tracking and bus attendants. Families can also access SIS after-school activities (school-wide) that include options like art, music, drama, coding and sports.
