Shinagawa International School began in 2007 in Shibuya and moved to Shinagawa Seaside in June 2018 to access larger facilities and broader programs. It operates three campuses: Aoyoko Campus (preschool–kindergarten), Seaside Campus (grades 1–3), and Samezu Campus (grades 4–12), with the Aoyoko Campus opening in 2025 to provide an IB PYP Early Years program. SIS is an IB World School and is pursuing accreditation with the Council of International Schools (CIS). The school emphasizes a multicultural community with small class sizes and a high teacher-to-student ratio, supporting personalized instruction.
Shinagawa International School's community is multicultural, with students and families representing more than 40 nationalities. Parents are actively involved in school life, contributing to a collaborative environment. The school maintains an active calendar of events and after-school programs, including residential trips and a range of extracurricular activities that support learning beyond the classroom.
The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is a parent-led volunteer group focused on two main goals: to support projects that enhance the educational experience and to create an inclusive community. All families are PTA members; parents participate by volunteering at events, serving on committees or acting as class representatives. The PTA is governed by a constitution and managed by a seven-member leadership committee (president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, health and well-being coordinator, head of school, and a staff representative), with additional event coordinators and class representatives supporting activities across divisions. The PTA Handbook outlines procedures and structure. Prospective families can contact pta@sistokyo.jp to learn more and get involved.
Shinagawa International School’s Aoyoko Campus is its Early Learning Center for children aged 3 to 5 in Minamishinagawa, Shinagawa (Tokyo). Children begin with the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) Early Years curriculum, which was introduced at this facility in 2025 and is delivered through a play-based approach that encourages curiosity, inquiry and exploration. The campus includes a safe outdoor playground for physical development, creativity and social interaction. SIS teaches in English (with Japanese taught as a subject) and the school also offers a school bus service with features such as GPS tracking and bus attendants. Families can also access SIS after-school activities (school-wide) that include options like art, music, drama, coding and sports.
