It's best to ask — circumstances can change at any time.
Shinagawa International School supports social-emotional learning through Learning Support that includes counseling, small class sizes, and Student Success Plans, with English as an Additional Language (EAL) and targeted math support contributing to a supportive, inclusive environment.
SEN provision includes identifying additional needs during the application process or through classroom observations; Learning Support covers learning difficulties and EAL, with formal IEPs for formally assessed students and a Student Success Plan for others; small class sizes, counseling, and math support are provided, and the school does not publicly disclose information regarding whether it is a specialist SEN institution.
The EAL program helps students access the mainstream curriculum through small-group instruction and curriculum modifications, with both push-in and pull-out sessions; English proficiency is assessed using WIDA standards during the interview process, and an EAL coordinator and homeroom teacher oversee ongoing support and regular assessments.
Counseling is provided as part of Learning Support to support students' mental wellbeing.
Shinagawa International School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the well-being of children, with safeguarding emphasized in staff recruitment practices (police background checks for new employees) and related policies; fire, earthquake, and lockdown drills are conducted regularly.
Shinagawa International School (SIS), founded in 2007, offers the full International Baccalaureate continuum: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), and Diploma Programme (DP). The Seaside Campus serves Grades 1–3 and forms part of the school’s PYP pathway across SIS campuses in Tokyo. Located in the Shinagawa Seaside area, the campus is supported by practical student services, including an organised school bus system with multiple routes and on-site daycare for younger children. Student life includes a structured afterschool programme with activities spanning arts, sports, academic clubs and service initiatives, as well as residential trips and swimming classes that are part of the school programme. SIS also operates a four-week Summer School, which features hands-on projects across science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics, along with weekly field trips. These programmes reflect the school’s emphasis on inquiry-based learning and real-world experiences within the IB framework.
