Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

Yoyogi International School was founded in 1999 by Dr. Yuko Muir to provide first-class international education in Tokyo. Since its founding, Dr. Muir has guided the school, serving more than 2,000 international families and sustaining a commitment to academic excellence, student well-being, and a warm and inspiring educational community. A Jinnan Campus was opened in Spring 2025 to serve Grades 2–8 and broaden the school's Tokyo presence. Beginning in the 2026–2027 school year, the school will operate a High School program (MYP Grade 9) on the Jinnan Campus and will introduce a Pre-K program at the Yoyogi Campus, with Diploma Programme authorization planned for the future. The school operates two campuses, Yoyogi Campus and Jinnan Campus, located in Shibuya near Yoyogi Park.

Community

The school describes its community as inclusive and encourages the celebration of differences and uniqueness. The entire community can participate in parent events and whole-school celebrations. The school emphasizes a warm, safe and nurturing environment that supports student well-being and learning.

Parent-Teacher Association

The PTA at Yoyogi International School is the Friends of Yoyogi. Its mission is to promote, build and expand parents' commitment to the community, while enriching children's educational journey. The group works alongside the school to support new families and fundraise for charities and new resources for students. Activities include regular coffee mornings for sharing and learning, monthly family picnics in Yoyogi Park, and parent social events. The PTA also coordinates United Nations Day planning and sharing, Halloween and Christmas decorating, and a book and uniform swap, along with assisting with home–school connections.
