Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

Mashrek International School was established in 1992 as a private, bilingual, co-educational IB World School. It began with 172 students and 28 educators, combining academic distinction with global citizenship while preserving Arab identity. In 2004, the school relocated to a purpose-built Dabouq campus to accommodate rising enrollment, with further expansions in 2007, 2018, and 2021 that added facilities and spaces for open-space learning. The school offers the IB continuum (PYP, MYP, DP) and is governed by an experienced board drawn from diverse fields, with CIS accreditation supporting its international standing. It currently serves around two thousand students representing more than 26 nationalities.

Community

Mashrek's school community is diverse, with students representing more than 26 nationalities and a bilingual environment that preserves Arabic culture while teaching in English. The school emphasizes inquiry-based learning, digital readiness, wellbeing, and global citizenship as core principles. Community engagements and events are a regular feature, including campus programs, parent interactions, and student-led activities. Publicly listed engagements include events such as MMUN 2025 launches and the Rooftop Garden Opening, which accompany ongoing initiatives like the Universities and Career Center to support students beyond the classroom.

Parent-Teacher Association

Mashrek describes a partnership with parents as a central element of its mission and community, focusing on sustained collaboration between families, teachers, and the school. Formal parent-involvement activities are visible in scheduled Parent-Teacher interactions, such as Grades 10 & 11 IBMYP Parent-Teacher Meetings, and in Middle School Student-Led Conferences, which engage parents in evaluating and guiding student progress. The school's strategic plan underscores partnering with parents and meaningful community engagement as a core objective. School events that involve families—such as MMUN launches and other engagements—further illustrate active parent participation in school life. The University and Career Center provides additional support for families navigating post-secondary planning, reflecting a broader framework for parent involvement.
