MAS MUN is the Model United Nations club at Modern American School. Students participate in conferences in Jordan and the United States, tackling global issues and developing research, debate, and public-speaking skills. The program aims to groom global thinkers and future leaders through structured simulations of the United Nations. The MAS Debate League (MASDL) supports speech and debate and participates in local and national tournaments, sharpening critical thinking and eloquence.
Creativity is fostered through the ACT Program's arts and literary activities, including the Photography Club, Poetry Café, Drama Club/Art Exhibit, and MAS Times: Newsletter. Students also participate in the French Club and other visual and performing arts initiatives, with on-campus arts events and exhibitions showcasing student work.
Travel Abroad Program offers immersion experiences to strengthen foreign language skills and cultural understanding. Trips to France support French language immersion, and visits to the United States expose students to model UN and academic programs. Destinations include Turkey, Switzerland, Greece, Spain, Austria, Italy, Cyprus, and more, giving students opportunities to engage with international communities.
After-school offerings include general activities such as Read It, Watch It and Internet Computer, as well as internal sports like football, basketball, gymnastics, volleyball, and chess. External sports include dancing (HipHop/Zumba), ballet, taekwondo, swimming, bowling, cycling, squash, and tennis. The program also supports student-run clubs and social activities that complement academics.
ACT Program is a community service and extracurricular program that promotes engaged international citizenship by supporting student services and philanthropic missions locally and globally. High school students must complete at least 15 hours of community service per year, and 60 hours to graduate, with on-campus and off-campus activities. Activities include Student Council, Model United Nations, charity drives and community support, Habitat for Humanity, the Science Fair, and various special events.
Leadership Development emphasizes preparing MAS students for life after graduation, with many high school students founding and operating on-campus activities and societies. The school promotes leadership through programs such as MAS MUN, Student Council, and the National Honor Society, which offers leadership development opportunities and conferences. NHS provides leadership development and college-admission resources, while MAS MUN and the Debate League give students platforms to practice leadership and public speaking.
MAS Athletics emphasizes sportsmanship and physical activity, with a broad Athletics program. Students take part in internal sports such as football, basketball, gymnastics, volleyball, table tennis, and chess, and external sports including dancing, ballet, taekwondo, swimming, bowling, cycling, squash, and tennis. The after-school schedule includes regular physical activities and team-based sports that support health, fitness, and teamwork.
Modern American School (MAS) is a private international school in West Amman, Jordan, serving ages 3 to 18 from two adjacent campuses in Sweifieh. It offers the American High School Diploma through Cognia/AdvancED and International Baccalaureate programs (IB PYP, MYP, DP). The curriculum blends an American-based pathway with the IB framework, and students earn credits in core subjects while pursuing electives such as Engineering and Technology. Language study includes Arabic, French and English, with optional Spanish, German and Japanese. MAS is affiliated with the American International Schools Worldwide Network and was founded by Tayseer Zamel, with Omaya Zamel as General Director. Facilities include five IT labs, three science labs, three media centers, three arts and crafts rooms, a 375-seat theater, a multi-purpose hall, two sports fields, two gymnasiums, and four libraries; the high school building has been renovated.
