English language support is provided for learners whose mother tongue is not English; a minimum English level is required to access the curriculum. In EYU and KS1, learners are supported in mainstream classes, while KS2 and KS3 beginners undertake an intensive English course for one hour per day for ten weeks, withdrawn from Literacy. At IB level, three Group 2 languages are offered—French, Spanish and Swahili—at ab initio, standard and higher levels; there is also an option for a self-taught language in a student's native tongue at standard level if that language is not English.
