Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

Opened in 1982, Braeburn Garden Estate School has been extensively developed over the years. The campus sits on a 32-acre site eight kilometres northeast of the centre of Nairobi. Facilities include large playing fields, a training swimming pool for younger pupils, a 25-metre pool, outdoor basketball and tennis courts, a large sports hall, a dance studio, a gym, two squash courts, boarding facilities, well-equipped classrooms, libraries, dining areas and playgrounds. The school follows the British National Curriculum through Nursery to Year 11, with the International Baccalaureate Diploma and Career-Related Programmes in Years 12 and 13. The school is a member of the Braeburn Group of International Schools.

Community

Braeburn Garden Estate has a cosmopolitan community with over 80 nationalities represented. The school actively welcomes new families and encourages parent involvement as part of the Braeburn community. The Braeburn Club provides a social space for adults to socialise after school hours, with events and quizzes. Braeburn regularly hosts events such as Diwali and other traditional festivals, International/Cultural Days and Family Discos, along with various sporting and charity events. Weekly newsletters and termly calendars keep families informed.

Parent-Teacher Association

The Friends of Garden Estate School (FROGS) is the group of volunteers that coordinates social activities and community-building for Braeburn Garden Estate families. FROGS runs weekly Friday Coffee Mornings at the Clubhouse where all parents are welcome. FROGS organises excursions and larger events such as Trivia Nights, Family Picnics, and an adults' Dinner & Dance. FROGS also hosts events specifically for parents and staff and coordinates family-focused activities like family fun days. Braeburn Garden Estate School is a co-educational day and boarding school near Nairobi serving ages 2–18. It follows the British National Curriculum through Nursery to Year 11, with Cambridge IGCSE and offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), the International Baccalaureate Career-Related Programme (IBCP) and BTEC Level 3 in Years 12–13. Boarding is available for Years 7 and above.
