Extra-Curricular Activities

Clubs, activities, and opportunities to explore interests and passions

Academic and Intellectual

Academic Competitions provide opportunities to compete in writing competitions, mathematics challenges, quizzes, and annual inter-house quizzes. These events enable students to compete with peers from other international schools in Kenya and occasionally elsewhere. The school supports these competitions to celebrate and develop students' gifts and talents.

Arts and Creative

Arts – music, drama, and art are central; children are encouraged to take part in productions on the stage. There are two major productions each year, plus regular musical concerts, talent shows, and class assemblies. Four peripatetic music teachers offer instruction in drums, strings, brass, and voice, with talented students participating in ABRSM examinations.

Cultural and Language

Model United Nations provides real-life opportunities to learn and excel in forums outside of school.

Social and Hobbies

Beyond the arts, students participate in social and recreational events that foster collaboration and creativity. The school supports participation in class assemblies and school-wide events that promote teamwork and community.

Community and Service

Students are encouraged to be aware of the world around them, including people, animals, and the environment, and to make a difference for those less fortunate. Through age-appropriate activities, students participate in charity events and initiate fundraising occasions.

Leadership and Professional

Leadership develops through roles such as the student council, prefects, and house captains. Model United Nations and President's Awards offer real-life opportunities to lead and excel outside of school. Careers guidance helps students decide on subjects for public examinations, and there is an annual Careers' Fair along with opportunities for workplace experience.

Lifestyle and Wellbeing

Sport is a central part of life with a Sport For All policy encouraging participation by students of all abilities. Inter-house competitions cover athletics, football, rugby, hockey, swimming, cross-country, netball, cricket, and rounders across all age groups. Braeburn swimmers compete nationally and internationally, with after-school training, holiday camps, and a history of participation in events such as the World Championships, All-Africa Games, Commonwealth Games, Africa Championships, and Africa Junior Championships.
