Academic competitions include Writing competitions, Mathematics Challenges, quizzes, and an annual inter-school Science Fayre hosted by Braeburn. Careers guidance helps students make informed subject choices for public examinations and includes a Careers' Fair and opportunities for work-place experience. Braeburn students compete with other international schools in Kenya, and occasionally with schools elsewhere, in inter-school events. These experiences enable students to apply knowledge beyond the classroom.
The Arts – music, drama, and art – are integrated into Braeburn's life beyond the classroom. There are three major productions each year, plus regular musical concerts, talent shows, and class assemblies. LAMDA is offered as an extra-curricular activity for Years 3–8 and is taught by a qualified instructor. Peripatetic music teachers provide instruments such as drums, strings, brass and voice, with ABRSM examinations available for talented students, and Braeburn students take part in local competitions such as The Young Musician of the Year and The Nairobi Verse Speaking Competition.
The school has a cosmopolitan community with over 90 nationalities represented. The Lifelong Learning centre offers classes in languages (and crafts) based on demand. International/Cultural Days are hosted, and festivals such as Diwali are celebrated.
Sport plays a central role, with 10–15 fixtures weekly and inter-house competitions across athletics, football, rugby, hockey, swimming, and more. The Tim Bryett Football Academy is a partnership designed as a professional-style academy with training 3–4 times per week. Extra-curricular clubs launched in September 2025 cover sports, art, environmental initiatives, debate, maths, and the Mind Hub Club. Residential and educational trips provide learning beyond the classroom.
Community Service is encouraged through charity events and fundraising to help those less fortunate. FAB – Friends at Braeburn – is a parent-teacher association that organizes events, supports charitable activities and engages the school community. The Braeburn Coffee Shop, Braeburn Club and Lifelong Learning spaces also foster community involvement and engagement throughout the year.
Students can develop leadership through the student council, prefects, and house captains. Model United Nations and President's Awards offer real-life leadership opportunities beyond the classroom. Careers guidance supports subject choices and there is a Careers' Fair plus work-place experience opportunities.
Sport features a broad schedule of fixtures and a Sport For All policy to include participants of all abilities. Braeburn runs a Tim Bryett Football Academy and a strong Swimming program with training camps and competition at national and international levels. The Braeburn Fitness Centre provides gym facilities and group classes for staff and families, and the theatres and cultural events contribute to social and personal wellbeing.
