Brookhouse School was founded in 1981 by the Puxley family as a small British-style preparatory school in Karen, Nairobi. A Secondary section was added in 1984 and the Brookhouse Boarding House was developed in 1997. Brookhouse undertook Council of International Schools accreditation in 2001, joined the Round Square network in 2006, and gained IAPS accreditation for the Prep section in 2008. In 2013 Brookhouse hosted the inaugural presidential debates for Kenya, and in 2015 it joined Inspired Education Group. A second campus, Brookhouse Runda, opened in 2017 (official opening in 2018), the Runda Library was opened in 2019, and the school has celebrated its 40th anniversary, while consistently achieving leading IGCSE and A-Level results and hosting the 2023 Round Square International Conference.
Brookhouse is a Round Square school with a global citizenship ethos and offers local, regional, and international experiences and excursions. The school runs a Global Citizenship programme and encourages student leadership within the Brookhouse community. International exchanges and conferences, as well as service projects, form part of learning beyond the classroom, including Round Square events hosted at Brookhouse. Brookhouse hosted the 2023 Round Square International Conference (RSIC).
Brookhouse Schools are private international day schools in Nairobi, Kenya, with premium on-site boarding at the Karen campus for boarders. The group operates two campuses, Karen and Runda, admitting pupils aged 1 to 18. The school delivers a UK curriculum across Kindergarten, Primary, Secondary and Sixth Form, including IGCSE and A-Levels, with a BTEC qualification option. Brookhouse is fully accredited by Cambridge International Examinations, Edexcel and AQA to deliver the UK framework. Facilities span a 15-acre Karen site and the Runda campus, with an indoor sports centre, a swimming pool, a state-of-the-art performance theatre, modern performing arts studios and STEM laboratories; VR and the Metaverse are used to enrich learning. The school has a long history since 1981, is a Round Square member, and joined Inspired Education Group in 2015. Extracurriculars include drama, music and a broad sports programme, plus a house system with Amboseli, Mara, Samburu and Tsavo today.
