How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

Learners feel safe in the school environment, which supports their education and Healthy relationships. Form tutors and class teachers monitor daily progress, while Heads of Year work alongside educators. Heads of Year may attend parent-teacher meetings to discuss progress and help designate year groups into bands reflecting students' academic abilities. All staff aim to support the student community. The Counselling Team advocates for student well-being and offers academic, social, emotional, and personal guidance.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

French, German, Spanish, Chinese and Kiswahili are offered. Language study is compulsory at the High School and IGCSE levels, and the A-level course also has language options available. Foreign language acquisition is regarded as a critical element of education for internationally-minded children and their families.

Mental Wellbeing

The Counselling Team advocates for student well-being and offers academic, social, emotional, and personal guidance. The school recognises that learners can only reach their potential if they are happy and secure. Form tutors and Heads of Year monitor well-being through daily progress and oversight of educational practices. Counsellors are available to provide additional support when needed.

Safeguarding

Learners feel safe in the school environment, enabling them to explore their education and develop healthy relationships. The school supports all members of the school community in collaboration with their families. Happiness and security underpin safeguarding and welfare across Brookhouse.

Brookhouse Schools are private international day schools in Nairobi, Kenya, with premium on-site boarding at the Karen campus for boarders. The group operates two campuses, Karen and Runda, admitting pupils aged 1 to 18. The school delivers a UK curriculum across Kindergarten, Primary, Secondary and Sixth Form, including IGCSE and A-Levels, with a BTEC qualification option. Brookhouse is fully accredited by Cambridge International Examinations, Edexcel and AQA to deliver the UK framework. Facilities span a 15-acre Karen site and the Runda campus, with an indoor sports centre, a swimming pool, a state-of-the-art performance theatre, modern performing arts studios and STEM laboratories; VR and the Metaverse are used to enrich learning. The school has a long history since 1981, is a Round Square member, and joined Inspired Education Group in 2015. Extracurriculars include drama, music and a broad sports programme, plus a house system with Amboseli, Mara, Samburu and Tsavo today.
