The school is governed through the nonprofit arm Children in Freedom (CIF), the non-profit arm of Freedom International Schools – Africa; Oku Kanayo is the Co-Founder and Director of Freedom International Schools – Africa (FISA).
Freedom International Schools – Africa is a private IB World School in Kenya offering an Afrocentric IB curriculum for ages 3 to 16. It is authorized to offer the Primary Years Programme and the Middle Years Programme, with Diploma Programme preparation underway. The Kindergarten through K3 program integrates the IB PYP with Afrocentric education, cultivating global-mindedness within an African context. The Nakuru campus provides spaces for sport, innovation, and the arts, along with a science laboratory and a computer laboratory. The school traces its history to a founding over a century ago and now serves about 1,375 students with around 350 staff across three campuses. Plans include expanding to Nairobi and African countries, including Nigeria and Rwanda. It operates as a day school with mixed boarding facilities. Core features include community initiatives and Afrocentric leadership development within a values-based program rooted in respect, love of learning, integrity, courage, and pluralism.
