It's best to ask — circumstances can change at any time.
The Deutsche Schule Nairobi celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2019. It participated in a project organized by the German Foreign Office and the Central Agency for German Schools Abroad titled Remembering for the Present – How we became what we are, focusing on researching and presenting the school's history. Twelve students from grades 9 to 12 formed a working group to develop a concept and bring the history of the Michael-Grzimek School to life. To share the results with a broad audience and preserve them long-term, the students created a dedicated history website.
The school is a green oasis in the middle of the bustling city. More than 50 nations are represented here, with children who have lived in different parts of the world and Kenyan children growing up here, united by curiosity and the joy of learning. We combine high educational quality with an open, family-like atmosphere that prepares our students for the world of tomorrow. The community engages in activities and events such as student council elections and other democracy-focused programs.
The School Association (Schulverein) was founded in 1964 and is the sponsor of the Deutsche Schule Nairobi. It ensures that German-language instruction is offered at a high level and leads to internationally recognized qualifications. All parents are automatically members of the association and actively shape the school's development, particularly through electing the school board at biannual member meetings. The board bears legal and strategic responsibility and decides on financial and personnel matters, working closely with the school leadership to shape the future of DSN. This arrangement keeps the Deutsche Schule Nairobi a living place of education, responsibility and community.
