Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The school provides a dynamic, supportive learning environment with an inclusive, holistic educational experience that cultivates knowledge, skills, leadership, and self-directed learning in a global society. There is a strong commitment to moral and character development. Students participate in co-curricular activities as part of the holistic approach. The school has an exemplary track record in providing quality education and preparing its students for higher learning both locally and abroad.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

The Inclusive Education Department (IED) caters for children with more complex Special Educational Needs. Learning Support adopts an inclusive model and provides focused, discreet support within the classroom environment. Learning-support teachers work holistically with students, collaborating closely with class and subject teachers to enhance learning outcomes. The framework focuses on preventing learning difficulties and delivering timely interventions through structured support systems.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

English Language is a compulsory subject under the IGCSE program; students study English Language as part of the core curriculum. In Senior High, English Language is offered under Pearson Edexcel International Advanced Level (IAL) and Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) as a subject.

Mental Wellbeing

A school counselor may be approached by students seeking voluntary help with alcohol or other drug-related problems, with communications treated with strict confidence. The Substance Abuse Prevention Policy provides for psychoactive substance testing when reasonably suspected, with procedures for parental notification and consent, and for medical testing at a reputable facility as needed. The policy also supports ongoing education programs on substance abuse and offers rehabilitation or counseling referrals as appropriate.

Safeguarding

Oshwal Academy Nairobi has a Child Protection Policy and a comprehensive Child Protection Manual to guide staff, volunteers, students, and families in matters related to the safety and care of children. All staff and volunteers must produce a certificate of good conduct and/or police clearance and are subject to background checks. Staff are required to report suspected incidents of child abuse or neglect following established procedures. The curriculum includes developmentally appropriate lessons related to child protection, and the community is continually trained and kept aware of safeguarding guidelines.
