History

Established in 1970, The Aga Khan Academy Nairobi is a private, co-educational K-12 school in the Parklands suburb of Nairobi. It offers the International Baccalaureate curriculum and is authorized to provide the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP). The Academy serves a multi-cultural student body of over 1,000 and is operated by Aga Khan Education Service Kenya (AKESK), a non-profit organization with a long history of running schools in Kenya since 1918.

Community

The Academy emphasizes a harmonious balance between academic demands, sporting and cultural activities and community life. Its ethos aims to develop knowledgeable, open-minded thinkers and inquirers who are principled, risk-takers, well-balanced and caring, and to create an ethical, pluralistic global community with a social conscience. A strong co-curricular programme includes athletics, visual arts and performing arts, with Film Studies offered in the Senior School, contributing to broad engagement with the world.
