Coast Academy was founded in 1970 by Academic Services Limited as part of a programme to establish centres of academic excellence in Kenya. It comprises two sections: the Junior School (Playgroup to Year 6) and the Senior School (Year 7 to A level), located in Kizingo. The founder describes a safe, stimulating environment and a 'whole child' approach to learning. The Coast Academy has recently embarked on an expansion programme to enhance existing facilities.
The Coast Academy fosters a strong sense of community responsibility. CSR initiatives focus on education, environment, health, and social welfare. CSR programs include World Red Cross Day flood relief donations to the Kenya Red Cross Society; Tree Planting on May 10, 2024; and The Matter Heart Run 2024 to support heart-condition treatment. The school emphasizes holistic development and celebrates academic success, including exceptional IGCSE results.
The Coast Academy is a Kenya-based school for ages 2 to 18, offering a Cambridge-based pathway from Kindergarten to A Level. The Primary phase covers Key Stage 1 for ages 5 to 7 and Key Stage 2 for ages 8 to 11, with SATs at end of Key Stage 1 and Cambridge Primary Checkpoint tests in Years 3 to 5. The Lower Secondary phase follows the British National Curriculum's Key Stage Three, preparing students for entry into IGCSE programme. The Senior School delivers Cambridge IGCSE pathway followed by A Levels, with Years 12 and 13 forming Sixth Form and pupils selecting four or five subjects in Year 12 and three in Year 13. The Coast Academy operates across two campuses in Kizingo, Mombasa—the Junior and Senior Schools—connected to support continuity and community. ICT-equipped facilities support learning, and an expansion programme enhances campus. Extracurriculars include a sport program and Model United Nations.
