Extra-Curricular Activities

Clubs, activities, and opportunities to explore interests and passions

Academic and Intellectual

ISR offers an extensive After School Activities (ASA) program for students from Pre-School through Grade 12, with most activities included in tuition. The ASA program nurtures individual interests and talents, helps students discover and develop new skills, shares intercultural perspectives, and builds lasting friendships. The ASA program supports ISR's mission by fostering intercultural communication and helping students reach their potential. In 2025/2026, STEM workshops included hands-on activities such as building a helicopter model and programming robotic turtles, illustrating how ASA complements the academic program.

Arts and Creative

Arts and creative activities are part of ISR's extracurricular program, including music and a range of creative clubs. The ASA program offers a variety of activities designed to enrich students' creative expression. Participation in ASA complements the academic program and supports collaboration and performance. ISR emphasizes arts and creativity as integral to student life.

Cultural and Language

Latvijas Skolas soma is offered as a Beyond Classroom activity to provide Latvian cultural experiences. Latvian language is offered as a world language option from Grade 1 to Grade 10, and local students may take Latvian State exams at the end of Grade 9 and Grade 12. Latvian Heart highlights Latvia's traditions and culture, including national festivals and traditional music, and is used to unite the ISR community. Latvijas Skolas soma is integrated into Beyond Classroom offerings at ISR.

Social and Hobbies

ISR offers a wide range of extracurricular activities through the ASA program, including sports, arts, music, and academic clubs. Activities are available from Pre-School through Grade 12 and the ASA schedule changes each trimester to reflect student interests. ASA activities promote social interaction, intercultural exchange, and friendship-building beyond the classroom. Mission & Service groups and school events provide additional social and hobby activities.

Community and Service

Mission and Service (M&S) is at the heart of ISR's secondary program; M&S groups are student-led with teachers offering guidance. Students plan and implement activities to engage with local and global communities, develop leadership, and become leaders and creators. CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) is part of the Diploma Programme and fosters personal and interpersonal development through service. The ISR Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and school events provide volunteering and community engagement opportunities.

Leadership and Professional

Mission and Service groups are student-led and focused on leadership and creating, with students planning and implementing activities under teacher guidance. CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) is a Diploma Programme requirement that develops leadership and collaboration skills. ISR emphasizes leadership and professional skills as part of IB programming and school life.

Lifestyle and Wellbeing

ISR provides spaces for sports and other activities on both campuses; the Secondary Campus is located near the Olympic Centre for physical education. The extracurricular program includes sporting, academic, and creative activities, most of which are included in tuition. The homepage notes 40+ extra activities, reflecting a broad program of non-academic engagement.
