Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The school has a counsellor available to all students and a safeguarding system to support welfare and safety. The ethos is that all adults are responsible for wellbeing, creating a warm and caring environment with strong staff–student relationships; students feel safe and supported. All staff undergo annual safeguarding training; the safeguarding team includes a designated safeguarding lead and deputy safeguarding leads; concerns are recorded and acted on using the My Concern system.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

SEND provision exists and there are plans to develop it further to meet the needs of all students requiring additional support.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

There is currently no formal English Additional Language (EAL) program for students entering with little or no English. English is the language of instruction across the school, with Latvian Language and Literature A and English B offered to meet the needs of local and international students; in the early years many children join with limited English and a language-rich approach is used to support development.

Mental Wellbeing

A school counsellor is available to all students. The school places a high priority on welfare and safety, with a warm and caring ethos and strong relationships between staff and students.

Safeguarding

All staff undergo annual safeguarding training. The safeguarding team includes a designated safeguarding lead (DSL) and deputy safeguarding leads; outside providers have police checks and safeguarding training; the school uses Inspired's My Concern to record concerns; safeguarding policies are regularly reviewed.
