LWIS-CiS Downtown Beirut was founded in 2003 as a private, international, English-medium, co-educational day school (KG1 to Grade 12). Arabic is offered as a first and second language, and French is taught for communication purposes. LWIS-CiS is learner-centered and multinational in curriculum, staff, and learners. It is a member of the LWIS Network and is accredited by NEASC. The school offers a tailor-made American Curriculum and is an International Baccalaureate World School for the Diploma Programme, with a Lebanese Program also offered, and is a Microsoft School.
The CIS community includes students, parents, teachers, staff, management, consultants, Board of Trustees (LWIS Network BOT) and the surrounding community. Students vote for a Student Council to represent them, and teachers and parents form a Parent Teacher Association (PTA). This allows the BOT to form an Advisory Council to include the Heads of the Student Council, PTA, Management, as well as recognized educators from the local and expatriate communities. The school adheres to an open-door policy where all stakeholders' input is valued.
The Parent Committee is a diverse group of parents who support the school's mission and work with the administration and parents to create a safe and positive learning environment. They believe parents have a strong role in advancing the school's social and support services. The LWIS-CiS Parent Committee aims at developing strong partnerships with learners, parents, and administration toward developing projects that will advance student life, parent involvement, and school facilities. Objectives include improving safety measures, hygiene, relations with teachers, behavior/values, and social and athletic services; encouraging parents to participate in events and to contribute their time, skills and talents at school events; and working with the administration to improve facilities. The committee is led by President Ahmad Kamberji and Vice President Mireille Mallak, and can be contacted at parents.committee@lwis-cis.edu.lb.
