Queen Morta School began in Vilnius in 2013 as Queen Morta's Primary School, welcoming its first students in four classes, 68 students, and eight teachers. It expanded to Kaunas in 2015 and opened a new Kaunas campus in 2016. Cambridge accreditation followed in 2017, and the school joined the International Baccalaureate programme in 2021, becoming an IB World School in 2022. In 2023 the school celebrated its 10th anniversary and launched a parental program titled 13 Klasė with Austėja Landsbergienė, PhD. The school is named after Morta, Lithuania's 13th-century queen, celebrated for promoting modern ideas and balance of family and work.
The Community Book describes operations and rules for the Queen Morta School community, updated annually and mandatory for all members of the community. The community aims to be CREATIVE, RESILIENT, COURAGEOUS, COMPASSIONATE, and RESPECTFUL, with a vision of Courageous and Lifelong Learners and a mission to strive for high academic achievement. Key community initiatives include Morta's Kindness Project led by families, the Student Parliament, and the Advisory Board, which includes representatives from the school, parents, and independent members. Teachers participate in the internal Teachers' Academy and collaborate with schools in Sweden, Finland, Germany, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Lithuania, and the United States, and the school emphasizes the Global Goals and environmental stewardship.
The Advisory Board is a collegial consultative body of Queen Morta School, chaired by the head of the respective school department. It includes representatives from the school, parents, and independent community members. The Advisory Board provides recommendations on matters related to the daily operations and other issues presented by the administration. The Advisory Board does not make decisions regarding admissions, hires, salaries, budgets, or curricula. Participation in the Advisory Board is voluntary and unpaid. Morta's Kindness Project is a voluntary initiative led by families and welcomes participation.
Queen Morta School is an international IB continuum and Cambridge-accredited institution in Lithuania with campuses in Vilnius and Kaunas. The school serves students aged 5–18, offering Cambridge Primary and Secondary programs alongside the IB Primary Years Programme and Middle Years Programme as a Candidate School, and the Diploma Programme in the upper grades, taught in English (with Lithuanian literature taught in Lithuanian). Since the Vilnius campus opened a new building in 2020, the school has combined modern facilities with an urban garden for sustainability-inspired learning. Cambridge accreditation was achieved in 2017 and the school joined the IB World School network in 2022. It also launched the 13 Klasė parental program in 2023. A broad activity program includes sports, arts, cultural exchanges (Nordplus), and student-led governance through the Student Parliament and Advisory Board, while summer camps in Vilnius offer outdoor pursuits and sports. The curriculum emphasises citizenship, collaboration, and global awareness.
