Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

HIBS fosters social and emotional development through its structured boarding environment, which emphasizes self-management, discipline, teamwork, and respect for others. The co-educational setting provides opportunities for boys and girls to develop social skills within a safe and structured environment that maintains privacy and safety for all students.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

HIBS is not a specialist SEN institution and may not have the facilities or staff to support students with more complex or intensive needs.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

HIBS provides a Special English Language Proficiency program to support students for whom English is not their first language. This program aims to enhance students' English proficiency, enabling them to access the curriculum effectively.

Mental Wellbeing

Highlands International Boarding School (HIBS) supports student mental wellbeing through its Counselling Department, offering both individual and group sessions in a confidential setting. The team also conducts career guidance programmes and assists with student orientation. Counsellors play a role in helping students adjust to school life and support those navigating disciplinary issues. These services aim to promote emotional resilience and a positive school experience.

Safeguarding

HIBS has adopted and practices policies to ensure good governance and to provide a safe and conducive environment for students to grow and develop. The school has an anti-bullying policy in place, prohibiting all forms of bullying, with offenders referred to the school's disciplinary body.
