The idea to build a school that all students enjoy coming to was conceived by parent-founders in 2015. IDRISSI is Malaysia's first Eco-Islamic International School, blending Cambridge International Education with Islamic and environmental values. It started in Setia Alam and has grown to two campuses—Setia Alam in Selangor and EduCity Iskandar Puteri in Johor—with plans for further expansion announced in 2025, including a Bukit Jelutong campus. GAINS Education Group is the parent company, bringing together Genius Aulad, Sekolah Tinta and Genius Care. The school has grown from about 50 students at its founding to hundreds across its campuses.
IDRISSI's community centers on an Eco-Islamic, nature-first ethos that blends Cambridge International Education with Islamic and environmental values. The Setia Alam campus is a green, homely space where learning extends beyond the classroom to include composting, care for goats and tilapias, and recycling. A close tripartite relationship between parents and teachers is fostered, encouraging parental voices in school life and decision-making. The school hosts family-engagement events such as Open Day and showcases student work in annual exhibitions.
IDRISSI operates a PTA-style channel of parent involvement, anchored in a close tripartite relationship between parents and teachers. Parents participate in school life through events such as Open Day, which invites families to meet educators and tour the eco-campus. Enrollment-focused events like Taster Week give parents a hands-on glimpse of the learning environment and classroom activities. The school has been recognized by external awards that involve families, including a 2023 Motherhood Choice Award for Best Private International School. In 2025, the school received Malaysia Education Awards' Best International School, highlighting active involvement of the school community including families.
