Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

Maple Leaf Kingsley International School was founded in 2011 by Mr. Jeffrey Siew and Madam Susan Tay. It was established as a "homegrown" international school in Malaysia with the aim of providing an education that blends different educational philosophies. The school is now a part of Maple Leaf Educational Systems (MLES), an organisation that operates schools across Asia and was originally founded in 1995 with a model that merged Canadian and Chinese educational approaches.

Community

The school has a diverse community, with a student body composed of both Malaysian and international students from various countries. This multicultural environment is a key aspect of the school's identity. The school encourages community and cultural understanding through various activities and a curriculum that promotes global citizenship. A tradition at the boarding hall involves new students leaving a painted palm print on a wall, creating a visual legacy and fostering a sense of belonging.

Parent-Teacher Association

The school does not have a traditional Parent Teacher Association (PTA). Instead, it facilitates communication and parental involvement through regular event sessions and a dedicated online Parent-Teacher portal. This platform allows parents to monitor their child's academic progress, receive updates and announcements, and communicate with teachers. The school also encourages parents to be involved in the learning process through access to platforms like Google Classroom.
