Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The school promotes social and emotional learning through a supportive and nurturing environment, with a particular focus on building strong teacher-student relationships. This is supported by a pastoral care system that provides guidance and mentorship to students. The school also emphasizes the development of values such as respect and responsibility to foster a positive school community and the personal growth of students.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Maple Leaf is not a specialist SEN institution but offers support for students with mild to moderate learning difficulties. A dedicated team works with students who have a range of needs, including dyslexia, dyspraxia, and ADHD, providing in-class support and tailored interventions. The school develops individualized plans for students and works in partnership with parents and external specialists to ensure appropriate support.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

The school provides support for students for whom English is an additional language. An initial assessment upon entry helps to determine the level of English language proficiency. For students who require it, the school offers an English as an Additional Language (EAL) program to develop their confidence and fluency in English, with the aim of enabling them to fully access the mainstream curriculum.

Mental Wellbeing

The school supports student mental wellbeing through its pastoral care system, which includes a dedicated team of staff such as a school counsellor and a Healthcare Coordinator. They take a proactive approach to identify and support students who may need additional help. The school has an open-door policy, allowing students to seek guidance when needed, and initiatives like "Wellbeing Days" and a "Reset Room" provide dedicated time and space for students to focus on their mental health.

Safeguarding

Maple Leaf Kingsley International School has a clear commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of its students. The school has a designated Safeguarding Lead and provides annual training to all staff and students to ensure they are aware of their roles and responsibilities in protecting young people from harm. The school has established procedures for reporting concerns and works to maintain a secure environment where students are encouraged to speak up if they have a worry.
