Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The school emphasizes social and emotional development through its counseling programs. Elementary counselors conduct guidance lessons focusing on empathy, problem-solving, and emotional management. Middle and high school counselors provide individual and group counseling, addressing academic, social, and emotional needs, and collaborate with teachers and administrators to support student well-being.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

M'KIS supports students with a variety of learning needs or mild learning differences through its Literacy Support Program (Kindergarten - Grade 5) and Learning Support Program (Grade 6 - 12). Support is provided via various models, including small group pull-out, push-in, and occasional one-on-one sessions, as well as focused remediation programs. Students with an Individual Student Support Plan (ISSP) receive long-term support. While the school strives to meet individual needs, it is not a specialist SEN institution and acknowledges it may not be able to accommodate every need.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

The school offers specific support for students with English as an Additional Language requirements. In Elementary School, a flexible combination of instructional support is provided based on individual language learning needs. For Middle and High School students in Grades 6-10, three 85-minute blocks of dedicated EAL support are incorporated into their schedule. EAL teachers also work closely with all subject teachers to integrate both formal EAL instruction and subject-specific language development.

Mental Wellbeing

M'KIS supports students' mental wellbeing through a counseling program. In the Elementary School, counseling includes classroom guidance, parent education, and individual or group counseling sessions. Classroom guidance lessons focus on physical, social, and emotional growth, helping students build interpersonal skills and make healthy, respectful choices. In Middle and High School, the school strives to create a learning environment that fosters cultural understanding, personal safety, emotional well-being, and active engagement in academic programs.
