SISM is part of the global Soka education system, which was founded by Daisaku Ikeda in Japan. SISM is recognized as the first Soka International school outside of Japan, rooted in a philosophy of humanistic education. The school officially opened and welcomed its first students in 2023.
SISM aims to foster a diverse and inclusive community, welcoming both Malaysian and international students. The school emphasizes a community approach through its humanistic education philosophy and integrated Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). The community celebrates various cultural events, such as the Chinese New Year Celebration, and hosts activities focused on broader themes like environmental sustainability.
Parents are actively involved in school life and are encouraged to participate in events and maintain a dialogue with teachers and staff, although there is no formal parent teacher association.
Soka International School Malaysia (SISM) is a co-educational day and boarding school located in Negeri Sembilan. The school follows the Cambridge curriculum for students in Years 7 to 11, leading to the IGCSE examinations. For post-16 education, the school plans to offer both A-Levels and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, starting in 2026. The school is situated on a 50-acre campus designed with a focus on environmental sustainability, utilizing solar power and a rainwater harvesting system. On-site facilities include a 50-meter swimming pool, dedicated labs for science, design and technology, and art, as well as a boarding residence named "Friendship House." Co-curricular activities are a daily part of school life, with a broad selection of sports such as wall-climbing, aikido, and archery, alongside clubs like Model United Nations and the school orchestra. The school's educational approach is founded on the Soka philosophy of "value creation," a humanistic framework that prioritizes the individual student's happiness and potential. SISM is the first international school to be built on this principle.
