Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

St. John's International School was established in 2010 as a privately-funded institution. It is an extension of the long-standing St. John's Institution, a landmark in Malaysian education since 1904. The school is held by St. John's International Edu Group Sdn. Bhd. and maintains a strong association with the De La Salle Brothers, continuing the Lasallian tradition of education in Malaysia. This connection provides a foundation rooted in a history of educational service.

Community

The school community is made up of students from over 25 different nationalities, creating a diverse cultural environment. SJIS holds regular "Open Day" events for prospective families, which include interactive workshops like creative photography, writing and poetry, and even moviemaking. These events are designed to be family-friendly and showcase the school's various programs and activities, encouraging participation from both parents and potential students.

Parent-Teacher Association

The school does not publish information about an active Parent Teacher Association (PTA) or a similar parent-led group for the secondary campus

Located in central Kuala Lumpur beside the Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve, St. John’s International Secondary School educates students aged 11 to 18. The school provides a clear academic progression through the Cambridge curriculum, starting with Lower Secondary, leading to IGCSE examinations, and culminating in the A-Level programme for university entrance. The school's facilities support this curriculum with science labs, a library, and various sports courts. Distinct from many international schools, St. John's continues the long-standing educational mission of the De La Salle Brothers in Malaysia. This is evident in its focus on character building and service, with co-curricular options like the Interact Club and St. John Ambulance. The school also offers specialised clubs such as Debate and Drone Technology, preparing students for varied post-secondary pathways.
