Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

Templer places a strong emphasis on the Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) of its students, viewing the well-being of every community member as central to success. From the Early Years, the curriculum integrates Personal, Social, and Emotional Development as a core area of learning. Teachers facilitate this through various initiatives, including group activities, cooperative play, and guided discussions, to help children understand and manage their emotions, build empathy, and develop positive social skills. The school is committed to fostering an environment where students can navigate social interactions, resolve conflicts, and collaborate effectively.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

TPIS is an inclusive institution that provides support for students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and additional learning requirements. The school has dedicated staff and programs aimed at assisting students with special learning needs. This provision includes physical accommodations such as wheelchair access and handicapped washrooms. The school also offers access to an educational psychologist for students who may require such support.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

The school offers specific support for students requiring English as an Additional Language (EAL), known as the English Enhancement Program (EEP) or English Language & Learning Support Programme (ELLS). Support is provided through pull-out sessions for focused acquisition and remedial teaching, or through in-class assistance, particularly for those with higher needs. The aim is to help ELLs quickly adjust, comprehend mainstream lessons, and boost their self-confidence in English skills, with regular assessments against the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Mental Wellbeing

The school supports the mental wellbeing of its students through a holistic approach, recognizing its importance for individual success. The school's environment, particularly its emphasis on outdoor learning within its natural surroundings, is highlighted as a key factor in reducing anxiety, lowering stress, and improving overall mood. This engagement with nature encourages physical activity and exploration, which in turn boosts emotional resilience and self-esteem. The school also integrates a focus on the "personal, social and emotional self-awareness and wellbeing" of its community members, aiming to guide students in developing their own well-being and fostering confidence to seek support when needed.

Safeguarding

TPIS manages safeguarding and child protection through established policies and procedures. The school is committed to fostering a secure, supportive, and conducive learning environment where the holistic development of students is prioritized, underpinned by these formalized safeguarding measures.
