Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

Pastoral care and wellbeing are central to the student experience at EcoHill, fostered through care, connection, and community. Initiatives include a peer-led buddy system for new students, a house system for belonging and leadership, and daily check-ins with tutors. The school focuses on mental fitness, emotional health, and personal development, utilizing digital tools to track progress and having a trained school counsellor available as a safe space for students to seek support.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

While not a specialist SEN school, Tenby considers applications from students with special educational needs on a case-by-case basis. The evaluation process involves an interview with the SEN Counselor or Head of School and a trial class to assess the student's needs and the school's capacity to support them.

This individualized approach ensures that any support provided aligns with the school's resources and the student's requirements. The school aims to accommodate a range of learning needs, provided they can be met within the existing educational framework.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

The school offers a comprehensive English as an Additional Language (EAL) program, providing tailored support across all proficiency levels. This includes Intensive, Standard, and Full Immersion options, along with online support through "The Learning Village." The school employs a whole-school approach led by a Multilingualism Lead and conducts initial language assessments for new students to personalize support.

Safeguarding

Tenby Schools has a comprehensive Group Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy. This policy outlines procedures for responding to concerns about a child's welfare, preventing unsuitable people from working with children, and ensuring children's safety and wellbeing. The policy is regularly reviewed and updated to reflect best practices in child protection.
