Clavis follows the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP), authorised since 2002. The learning is inquiry-led and transdisciplinary, encouraging students to think critically, ask meaningful questions, and connect learning to real-world contexts. The school places equal emphasis on academic learning and the social, emotional, creative, and physical development of each child. Technology is used intentionally as a tool to support learning, creativity, collaboration, and inquiry, rather than as an end in itself.
Clavis offers after-school activities beyond academics, including art, yoga, science, engineering, gymnastics, drama, music, and football. These programmes spark curiosity, inspire creativity, and promote well-rounded development. Students have opportunities to explore passions and develop creativity through arts and performance.
The school serves local Mauritians and international students, creating a diverse population that exchanges cultural values and experiences. It is an English-language education environment welcoming multinational and multicultural students. Clavis emphasizes inclusivity and diversity as part of its community.
After-school activities provide opportunities to explore hobbies, make new friends, and broaden horizons beyond academics. Activities include art, yoga, science, engineering, gymnastics, drama, music, and football. Outdoor learning and field experiences help students develop practical interests and life skills.
The school is led by Head of School Nadine de Marassé Enouf. The PYP Coordinator leads curriculum implementation and supports teachers across the IB programme. The Beau Champ Campus opened in January 2025, extending Clavis to the east coast of Mauritius.
Clavis emphasizes holistic development beyond academics, focusing on wellbeing, social, and physical growth. After-school activities and outdoor experiences nurture physical health and resilience. Year 5 campers and Year 6 Rodrigues trips provide independent learning opportunities and real-world challenges.
Clavis International Primary School is a non-profit, English-medium international primary in Mauritius serving ages 3 to 12. It offers the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) at two campuses, Moka and Beau Champ. The school began offering the PYP in 1998 and achieved full IB authorisation in 2002, becoming the first in the region to offer the programme. The PYP is inquiry-based and transdisciplinary, with a written, taught, and assessed curriculum that follows the Making the PYP Happen framework. Class sizes are small: Pre-Reception around 15, Reception around 18, Year 1 around 22, with homeroom teachers supported by teaching assistants. The school emphasises inclusion, with an inclusion team member from Moka guiding support at Beau Champ and ongoing resource expansion. Facilities include a library corner and a music room at Beau Champ, plus an outdoor playground shared across campuses. After-school activities include Rhythmic Adventure, Science Club, Trash to Treasure at Beau Champ, and art, drama, music, science, and engineering at Moka.
