Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

LBIS officially opened in January 1990. It has grown rapidly into an IB World School serving over 800 students and offering the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme, Diploma Programme, and Career-Related Programme. The CP includes the Pearson BTEC curriculum, and Cambridge IGCSE is available in Forms 4 and 5. LBIS is accredited by the Council of International Schools, the Middle States Association, and the Mauritian Ministry of Education, and is a member of the Association of International Schools in Africa. The school is operated by the non-profit PROGOS organisation and has a diverse student body representing 30 nationalities, with a 9:1 student-teacher ratio and an average class size of 20.

Community

LBIS has seven prefect committees: Student Life, Events, Outreach, Academics, Sports, Treasury, and Heads. The Student Life committee aims to improve the overall out-of-class experience, including addressing bullying, providing prefect/teacher support, improving facilities, and organizing dress-up days and events such as Valentine's Day. The Events committee organizes assemblies and whole-school festival competitions, with projects such as the Diwali and Chinese New Year assemblies. The Outreach committee works with external personnel for equipment, food, performers and other event needs; the Academics committee arranges education-related events such as innovations fairs and spirit-day quizzes. The Sports committee coordinates cross-country, sports day and swimming galas, while the Treasury committee tracks event funding; Heads coordinate the committees and communicate concerns to administrators.
