The school introduced Model United Nations in 2016 as an after-school activity for upper school students. Students role-play UN delegates and attend MUN conferences organized by the school or external bodies, developing research, public speaking and diplomatic skills. MUN promotes global awareness, critical thinking and the ability to address real-world issues from diverse perspectives. The school has earned notable MUN accolades, including Best Delegate for the Human Rights Watch Committee, Best Delegate of Youth Assembly, honourable mentions and recognition in the International Court of Justice.
The school offers a wide range of extracurricular activities each term, including sports, cultural, creative and academic options. Every year group can improve and learn new skills through academic support after school. Creative and cultural clubs help students step out of their comfort zone and take on new challenges. After-school activities can be registered as Service as Action activities on ManageBac.
Cultural awareness and participation are integral to a Northfields student's education. The cultural programme includes celebrating religious festivals such as Chinese New Year, Diwali, Eid and Christmas to understand different traditions. The aim is to involve all students, expand their appreciation of cultural activities and develop confidence and teamwork. Founders' Day and National Day are celebrated as part of the social and cultural calendar.
Social events are integrated into the cultural programme and broader student life. Founders' Day is a traditional calendar event that unites the school community and encourages ambition and potential in all areas. National Day is celebrated to honour Mauritius and its citizens. These events build relationships, teamwork and a sense of belonging among students.
Many after-school activities can be registered as Service as Action activities on ManageBac. The clubs encourage students to act and to provide service to others, supporting the wider community. This approach strengthens community involvement and social responsibility.
The Student Representative Council (SRC) is an integral part of Northfields International High School. Two students from each class are democratically elected as SRC members, who listen to student feedback and work with staff to plan events. The Prefects lead the student community by delivering assemblies, supporting peers during breaktimes, running extracurricular activities and assisting faculties. Senior Prefects are selected to lead the Prefect body, with Head Boy and Head Girl providing further leadership oversight.
Sport at Northfields consists of interhouse events that are fiercely contested throughout the year. The program includes Swimming, Athletics, Basketball, Tennis, Cross Country, Rounders, Football (Boys and Girls) and Netball. Northfields also participates in MSSSA regional and national events and arranges inter-school fixtures, with plans to host international sporting festivals and expand the sporting after-school program.
