Northfields International School was founded in 2001 by a small group of eight parents living in the North. They pooled their hearts, minds and finances to create a school with a family atmosphere for their children, and opened in September 2001 to a first intake of 9 pupils. The school is presented within the Inspired Education Group network, which provides global opportunities and a holistic curriculum across academics, sports and the creative and performing arts through its Inspired framework. Inspired Education Group offers academic excellence to over 85,000 students in over 115 schools on 6 continents and provides experiences such as summer camps, student exchanges, leadership conferences, and collaborative overseas projects.
Northfields maintains an active Alumni network with an Alumni Destinations page and alumni newsletters. The Alumni Destinations page notes that the overwhelming majority of students proceed to high-quality universities, with sixth form students receiving university guidance. The Parents Committee is a group of parent volunteers who work throughout the school year assisting in fundraising, community building and charity drives, organizing Fun Days, Cake Sales, Golf Days, monthly second-hand clothes collections for disadvantaged communities, and supporting the Eco Committee and various school functions such as Cross Country, Sports Day, and Gala, while also managing the school WhatsApp channels with parents. Student Life includes Student Leadership, the House System, Cultural & Social Events, and Extra Curricular Activities such as Model United Nations and Duke of Edinburgh.

Northfields International School Mauritius delivers an international education for ages 1–18. The curriculum blends IB (PYP, MYP, DP) with Cambridge IGCSE, the British Curriculum and a Montessori-inspired Early Years framework. From Pre-Nursery through Year 4, learners experience a Montessori-inspired EY environment; Years 5–6 use IB PYP in combination with the English National Curriculum; Years 7–9 follow IB MYP with the Cambridge Curriculum; Years 10–11 offer Cambridge IGCSE; and Years 12–13 provide either the IB Diploma Programme or A-Levels. The youngest learners are taught in a bilingual English–French setting, exposing students to both languages from an early age. Northfields is part of the Inspired Education Group, which offers global opportunities and a holistic framework across academics, sports and the arts.
