Clubs, activities, and opportunities to explore interests and passions

Academic and Intellectual

CAT provides a bilingual/bicultural education and confers dual U.S. and Mexican High School diplomas. It serves approximately 1,247 students in grades N-12 and is accredited by Cognia, SACS, CASI, and SEP since 1954. High School follows SEP guidelines and U.S. curriculum standards to award both Bachillerato and the High School Diploma, using a rotating eight-block schedule with a minimum of 30 credits for graduation. Seniors complete at least 100 community service hours, and AP courses are offered (AP Biology, AP Calculus AB, AP English Language & Composition, AP Macroeconomics, AP Precalculus, AP Psychology, AP Spanish Literature & Culture, AP World History: Modern) with exams supported and courses weighted at 1.1.

Arts and Creative

The Center for Visual & Performing Arts houses rooms for music, performing arts, painting, and digital arts, plus a Main Theater with 450 seats and professional-stage equipment. In the morning, curricular art subjects are taught; in the afternoon, kindergarten through High School students take classes in painting, stringed and wind instruments, theater, modern dance, classical dance, hip hop, digital art, singing, and jazz. Students can join orchestras such as CATEnsemble and Jazz Band, as well as a theater group, with opportunities to perform on a professional stage.

Cultural and Language

The school provides a bilingual/bicultural educational program. Model United Nations is offered as a student club, and CATravel and Journey Magazine appear among clubs that support cultural and language-related experiences.

Social and Hobbies

Clubs include Robotics, Club de Investigación, CATravel, Student Council, Programming Club, Debate, Model United Nations, National Honor Society, and Journey Magazine. These clubs provide opportunities for collaboration, leadership, and creative pursuits.

Community and Service

Seniors must complete at least 100 community service hours as part of CAT requirements.

Leadership and Professional

Leadership opportunities are available through Student Council and National Honor Society. The Counseling Office coordinates college advising and supports student preparation for higher education.

Lifestyle and Wellbeing

The wellness and educational sports program serves students from kindergarten through ninth grade. CAT facilities include a solar-heated swimming pool, five soccer fields, a track, basketball and volleyball courts, and three multipurpose gyms. The evening program offers a wide range of sports opportunities, and CAT participates in ASOMEX events.

Colegio Americano de Torreón delivers an American-based curriculum with Advanced Placement courses and a bespoke program for students from age 2 to 18. It is a private, non-profit, college-preparatory international school offering dual U.S. and Mexican diplomas. The High School awards Bachillerato and the High School Diploma per SEP and U.S. standards. Classes operate on a rotating eight-block schedule with eight 85-minute periods daily; students graduate with a minimum of 26 credits (maximum seven per semester). Seniors complete at least 100 community service hours. AP courses are available and weighted at 1.1 for GPA on a 4.0 scale, with GPA calculated in January and June. The campus spans 30 acres in Los Viñedos, with 100+ classrooms, three libraries, and a Center for Visual & Performing Arts featuring a 450-seat theater, a semi-Olympic pool, fields, and multiple gyms.
