Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

The Lycée Franco-Mexicain (LFM) was established in 1937 by 126 members of the French community who founded the association Liceo Franco Mexicano, A.C. The first classes were held in a space owned by the Marist brothers at 193 Melchor Ocampo street and included preschool and elementary programs (with half-board) as well as the collège (with full boarding) and the lycée. Pierre Fouque and Paul Le Brun, prominent members of the French community, sought support from the French ambassador in Mexico, Gabriel Bonneau, and the French government agreed to send French teachers. In 1949 a fundraising campaign began to finance a new site; land in the Polanco district was purchased with gifts from French residents, their companies, and some Mexican firms. The building was designed by architect Vladimir Kaspé, and construction took seven and a half months; on October 5, 1950 the Lycée Franco Mexicain opened at 1521 Homero, Polanco.

Community

The LFM's community page lists several French-connected institutions. ALFM is listed as part of the community. École Molière is listed. EX-LFM is listed. Les Chanteurs du Lycée is listed.

Parent-Teacher Association

Association des parents d'élèves (APE) is a group formed by parents to safeguard conditions conducive to students' schooling without interfering with the curriculum. The APE is a member of FAPEE, the Federation of associations of parents of students at French establishments abroad, and has been a founding member since 1980. FAPEE is represented on the board of AEFE, the Agency for French Education Abroad, with which the LFM is linked under a convention revised in 2013–2014. The APE commits to listening to parents' concerns and interests, to working daily to provide services, to anticipating parents' needs, and to strengthening communication within the LFM community.
