The school is governed by the American School of Tangier Corporation, a United States non-profit corporation registered in Morocco; it has partner schools in Marrakech (ASM) and Ben Guerir (ASB); AST and ASM are among five schools recognized under the bilateral treaty between the United States and Morocco. AST is an Assisted Overseas School (AOS) with support from the U.S. State Department.
American School of Tangier (AST) is a non-profit school governed by a Board of Trustees. It delivers American curriculum with Advanced Placement courses to students ages 3 to 18 and operates with direct and indirect support from the U.S. State Department, along with partner campuses in Marrakesh and Ben Guerir. The PK–12 program is knowledge-rich and balanced, prioritizing English, Arabic, Mathematics, Science, and History, while also fostering Music, Art, Physical Education and French. AST pursues authentic learning within a liberal arts framework that integrates STEAM across disciplines. The 15-acre campus sits opposite the Spanish Consulate, with an additional 20 coastal acres at Cherfian Rocks, blending historic and modern facilities. USAID-ASHA projects added a 12‑classroom wing and a Maker Space, upgraded the field, water drainage, solar power and heating. The library houses more than 9,000 volumes. Extracurriculars include ASAs and clubs in Arts, Culture/Language and Community Service, and MASAC athletic participation.
