ASAs provide after-school opportunities that broaden intellectual engagement beyond class time. They help students develop collaboration, social understanding, and skills outside the standard curriculum. Registration occurs each semester, with some activities requiring a year-long commitment, and sign-ups are emailed to parents at the start of the term. These activities extend learning and encourage students to pursue new academic interests.
AST has a fine arts program that provides foundational and performance skills across visual and performing arts. Electives include Choir, Guitar, Art, Computer Applications, Fitness, Health, Philosophy (in French), and MakerSpace activities. The arts program emphasizes creative expression and hands-on making as part of student life.
Language Acquisition is available in French and Arabic. The program supports multilingual development within the American-style curriculum. Electives include Philosophy taught in French, enriching cultural and linguistic understanding.
Extracurricular activities and ASAs help students socialize, understand one another, and work as a team. They ignite creativity and allow students to discover new passions while making connections with peers and teachers. Sign-ups occur each semester via an electronic form, and activities run for the entire term.
AST's Parent Association organizes community-building events such as Book Week, International Fairs, Career Fairs, and Science Fairs, as well as Sports Days. Parents volunteer as chaperones, in-class assistants, extracurricular program helpers, and event volunteers, strengthening school-community ties. The APA also sponsors teacher appreciation efforts, funds projects, and serves as ambassadors for AST.
AST's Parent Association provides leadership opportunities for parents to engage with the school, plan events, and support students and teachers. Members coordinate events, orientation programs, and fundraising, and serve as ambassadors for AST. The association fosters community and professional collaboration across AST's multicultural community.
The Maroc-American Schools Athletic Conference (MASAC) offers seasonal competition among member schools in sports such as soccer, basketball, volleyball, track, and swimming. The conference promotes athletic competition under current rules and emphasizes sportsmanship. The 2025-26 MASAC schedule lists tournaments hosted by AST and other member schools.
American School of Tangier (AST) is a non-profit school governed by a Board of Trustees. It delivers American curriculum with Advanced Placement courses to students ages 3 to 18 and operates with direct and indirect support from the U.S. State Department, along with partner campuses in Marrakesh and Ben Guerir. The PK–12 program is knowledge-rich and balanced, prioritizing English, Arabic, Mathematics, Science, and History, while also fostering Music, Art, Physical Education and French. AST pursues authentic learning within a liberal arts framework that integrates STEAM across disciplines. The 15-acre campus sits opposite the Spanish Consulate, with an additional 20 coastal acres at Cherfian Rocks, blending historic and modern facilities. USAID-ASHA projects added a 12‑classroom wing and a Maker Space, upgraded the field, water drainage, solar power and heating. The library houses more than 9,000 volumes. Extracurriculars include ASAs and clubs in Arts, Culture/Language and Community Service, and MASAC athletic participation.
