Social-Emotional Learning is woven throughout the program to develop shared values and cosmopolitan citizenship. The school is a non-profit organization overseen by a Board of Trustees with partner schools in Marrakesh (ASM) and Ben Guerir (ASB) and is an Assisted Overseas School (AOS) with support from the U.S. State Department to promote its American-style program.
English language arts follows the Common Core in mathematics and English language arts as part of an American-style curriculum. French is taught as an additional language beginning in grade 6. Arabic is required for Moroccan heritage students beginning in kindergarten and is open to all students. World Languages include Arabic, French, and AP French Language and Culture. AP Capstone is offered as part of the program.
Mental wellbeing is supported through Social-Emotional Learning integrated across the program, with a focus on character, leadership, service, and resilience.
Safeguarding resources are available, including a Child Protection page and a Parent Code of Conduct published for families, reflecting safeguarding and community expectations.
American School of Tangier (AST) is a non-profit school governed by a Board of Trustees. It delivers American curriculum with Advanced Placement courses to students ages 3 to 18 and operates with direct and indirect support from the U.S. State Department, along with partner campuses in Marrakesh and Ben Guerir. The PK–12 program is knowledge-rich and balanced, prioritizing English, Arabic, Mathematics, Science, and History, while also fostering Music, Art, Physical Education and French. AST pursues authentic learning within a liberal arts framework that integrates STEAM across disciplines. The 15-acre campus sits opposite the Spanish Consulate, with an additional 20 coastal acres at Cherfian Rocks, blending historic and modern facilities. USAID-ASHA projects added a 12‑classroom wing and a Maker Space, upgraded the field, water drainage, solar power and heating. The library houses more than 9,000 volumes. Extracurriculars include ASAs and clubs in Arts, Culture/Language and Community Service, and MASAC athletic participation.
