Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

The Lycée Lyautey de Casablanca is a French international secondary school in Casablanca, directly managed by the Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE). Its origins trace to the French Protectorate era, when Casablanca's lycée system began on the Camp Vilgrain site and later moved to Boulevard Mers-Sultan as the Grand Lycée, with the Petit Lycée following in 1929; both campuses were overseen under a single leadership. The Grand Lycée opened in 1921, and the Petit Lycée was relocated in 1929. The school is named after Marshal Lyautey, the first Resident General of France in Morocco, who promoted modernization and education. During the Protectorate, Moroccan students were gradually admitted to French lycées starting in 1944, reaching about 12% of enrollments by 1951. The institution remains part of AEFE and is located at 260 Boulevard Ziraoui, Casablanca.

Community

The school's community is organized around the Foundation Lycée Lyautey, created to promote citizen engagement and associative involvement among students across the Casablanca–Mohammedia AEFE pole, and to support pedagogical projects and solidarity actions in education, youth, sport, health, social and environmental initiatives. The ASLL (Association sportive du lycée Lyautey) runs a broad range of activities, with individual sports such as athletics, gymnastics, dance, climbing, tennis, boxing, badminton and swimming, and team sports including basketball, handball, football, and volleyball; many activities take place mid‑week in Beaulieu and nearby venues. Parent involvement is coordinated through associations such as APEEF, PEEP, and UCPE, with annual elections of parent representatives to the school council and ongoing avenues for dialogue and participation. The community also hosts events like Rama'dons, a solidarity food drive, and the Grand Prix du Jeune Photographe, organized by volunteering parents and students.

Parent-Teacher Association

There are three main parent associations: APEEF, PEEP, and UCPE. APEEF supports student schooling, participates in school and class councils, maintains dialogue among parents, teachers, and administration, and promotes universal values such as listening and respect. PEEP represents Parents d'Élèves des Établissements Publics Français au Maroc and maintains information and contact channels for parents. UCPE is the Union des Conseils de Parents d'Élèves (Parent Councils' Union) with a coordinating role for parent committees. Elections for parent representatives to the Conseil d'établissement occur annually via online voting, with participation organized through the school's channels.
