Admissions

Admissions

1) Admission eligibility. The Yangon Japanese School is a private school established by the Yangon Japanese Association. Admission requires membership in the Yangon Japanese Association. Before applying, families must join the Yangon Japanese Association. The school's policy and curriculum are designed and implemented under the principal's supervision. It is funded by family tuition, admission fees, teaching materials, and facility costs, with subsidies from the Government of Japan and the Yangon Japanese Association. The school asks all families to cooperate with school events and PTA activities to support smooth operation.

2) Application and required documents. Applicants must submit the school's designated forms in person for admission procedures. An admissions briefing is held before the new academic year (in April). Families wishing to attend should fill out the admissions interest form and email it to the deputy principal. Required documents from the previous school include an enrollment certificate, a copy of the academic record, a health certificate, and a dental exam certificate. If sending these documents by mail is problematic, bring them to the school when you visit.

3) Fees and tuition. The admission fee is US$2,000 per student (internal progression US$500). The annual teaching materials fee is US$360. Monthly tuition is US$450 for Kindergarten and Elementary, and US$500 for Middle School. A facility maintenance fee applies (refer to the attached documents).

4) Payment methods and notes. Payments can be made by bank transfer to Mitsubishi UFJ Bank, with the specified branch, account number, and account name. A copy of the transfer receipt should be submitted in the enveloped packet. Cash payments are accepted at the school office and must be in USD. Tuition can be paid in three-month installments (May, July, October, January) or as an annual lump-sum; if a student leaves, payments are prorated for the months enrolled.

5) Other enrollment matters. Yangon Japanese Association membership must be arranged at the Yangon Japanese Association office. The association's address is provided on site.

6) Preparation for enrollment. Textbooks follow the Japanese national curriculum; some overseas schools use different textbooks. Obtain a “textbook salary certificate” from the previous school and submit it to the Overseas Children's Education Foundation to receive textbooks, and bring the textbooks currently in use.

7) Items to prepare and related enrollment details. Families should prepare school supplies according to the grade level. The school sells gym wear; example items and approximate prices are listed (e.g., red/white hat 15,000 kyat; T-shirt 10,000 kyat; shorts 10,000 kyat). Indoor slippers are not sold. Vaccination requirements are noted for enrollment. The school bus service is currently suspended; parents arrange transport, and bus service contracts are handled directly with the operator (Nihon Myanmar Co.). Monthly bus cost is US$166, and inquiries should be directed to the bus operator.

7) Trial admissions (体験入学). Trial admissions are available for Kindergarten, Elementary, and Middle School and must follow the school's enrollment rules. Applicants must have a parent present for an interview, and admission may be refused if classroom activities would be disrupted. There is no fixed limit on trial attempts, but they are generally intended for those considering enrollment in the current year. The trial period lasts up to one month; trial fees are US$30 per day for Kindergarten and Elementary, US$40 per day for Middle School, with materials charged as needed. Absences during trial days are not refundable. Payment is required in USD cash by the trial date. A principal interview is required one week before the trial, and interested families should fill out the Trial Admission Applicants Form and email it to ygnjpschool2@gmail.com.
