Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

The International French School of Amsterdam is a French educational establishment approved by the French Ministry of Education and part of the AEFE network. It operates across two sites in central‑west Amsterdam: the Primary School at Anthonie van Dijckstraat 1 and the Middle/High School at Veerstraat 48. The school provides a bilingual education in English and French from ages 2 to 18, with Dutch language teaching. It is a member of the Globeducate network. Séverine Fougerol has been Principal since the start of the 2024 school year. The British international track is available from 6th to 10th grade, and the lycée offers the International French Baccalaureate (BFI).

Community

IFS fosters a sense of belonging through school spirit events and active parent involvement. Annual events include Pyjama Day, Halloween, Mardi Gras workshops, Sint Maarten day, Sinterklaas visits, and dance, theatre and music performances. The school supports a student council from middle school onward to develop leadership and teamwork, and offers a range of sport, music and arts activities as part of the curriculum. After-school clubs provide additional activities such as tennis, choir, chess, coding and watercolor painting.

Parent-Teacher Association

International French School has a thriving Parent's Association (Association de Parents d'Élèves, or APE) which represents and supports parents while fostering collaboration between families and the school. The APE organises events throughout the year, including the winter fêtes, summer fêtes, and parent coffee mornings. Each class at IFS has two parent representatives, who act as liaison between families and teaching staff, strengthening dialogue between the school and families and contributing to the continuous improvement of school life. Parent representatives participate in decision-making processes concerning the school. If you are interested in joining the APE please contact assoparentsIFS@gmail.com.
