The British School of Amsterdam was created in 1977 when three families posted to the Netherlands and decided to teach their children from one of their homes. The founding idea was that the students should not fall behind the British School system whilst overseas. It grew from a small primary school to a through-school for ages 3 to 18. Before 2021, the school was located in various locations; we now teach over 1,000 students and are located in one world-class building on Havenstraat. The school represents more than 56 nationalities.
The school has a diverse community with students representing 56 nationalities. The school hosts events such as International Day and Cultural Days where students, staff and families share heritage and celebrate different cultures, building lifelong friendships and preparing pupils to thrive in a globalised world.
The Parents' Organisation is part of The British School of Amsterdam, reflecting the school's origins as a parent-founded school and reinforcing belonging for students, staff, and families.
