Admissions

Admissions

1. Application Requirements and Procedures: The applicant must complete the Enrolment Application Form and Enrolment Contract. They must provide a passport for student and parent/s, a student visa/permit, and four recent passport-size photos. They must provide copies of recent school reports with verified English translation, immunisation/health checklist with vaccination records, and medical and travel insurance obtained through the school's insurer Southern Cross. If applicable, a completed Designated Caregivers Indemnity form and information on any medical conditions or learning difficulties are required. An administration fee of NZ$1,000 (non-refundable) is payable. 2. Conditions of Acceptance: Although an elementary level of English is desirable, no student will be refused acceptance due to their level of English, as all levels of English proficiency are catered for. Students and parents/legal guardians must accept and abide by rules regarding behaviour; unacceptable behaviour may result in termination of tuition. Students must observe the laws of New Zealand and the conditions of the visa; if terms are breached, the school may report to the Immigration Service, which may result in a student leaving New Zealand. Because class placements are decided on the evidence of assessment after arrival in New Zealand, all information given before enrolment about placement on courses and in classes is provisional and the school reserves the right to adjust placements as needed. The student will attend the school on all occasions when it is open unless prevented by illness or other urgent cause. Tuition may be terminated if the student fails to comply with the school rules or breaches the visa conditions. Tuition fees will be paid in full before enrolment, or before enrolment is renewed (whichever applies). All international students must have travel and medical insurance from Southern Cross, and the school will keep a record of the policy number. 3. School Zone: Auckland Normal Intermediate has an enrolment policy with defined boundaries for domestic students. Students living outside this school zone must enrol in their own zoned intermediate. In the event of an international student who gains domestic student status, the student would be expected to live within the defined school zone or move into the school zone immediately. If the student continues to live outside the school zone, they are required to transfer from Auckland Normal Intermediate to a school in their local area. 4. Procedure after application: For overseas students, documents are checked and assessed; a conditional Offer of Place is made and an invoice for the fees deposit is sent; deposit fees are paid; the conditional Offer of Place is confirmed upon interview (parent/caregiver and student). If the student is in New Zealand or arrives in New Zealand, on receipt of a completed enrolment application, the parents will be informed of an interview time. The interview will involve the prospective pupil and parents, the designated caregivers (if applicable), a translator (if required), the Principal or nominated deputy, and the teacher responsible for international students; the interview will include a tour of the school, explanation of the Conditions of Acceptance, classroom and daily programme explanation, an initial assessment of English, and ensuring the parents understand the Code of Practice. 5. What happens next: Parents will be informed in writing of the school's decision within seven days of the interview. If there are no current available places, the parents will be notified and given the option of being placed on a waiting list. When a place becomes available, they will be notified and given 14 days to accept or decline the placement. Placement at a particular Year level or class is at the discretion of the Principal and may depend on class numbers, English language proficiency and other assessments. If the application is accepted, a Confirmation Offer of Place letter will be sent to the parents, who will have 14 days to pay the school's fees.

Waitlist

If there are no current available places, parents will be notified and given the option of being placed on a waiting list. When a place becomes available, they will be notified and given 14 days to accept or decline the placement.
