Takapuna Grammar School sits atop the Takapuna cliffs on Auckland's North Shore. The 12-hectare campus features groomed grounds, playing fields, heritage buildings, and modern educational facilities. It offers commanding views of Rangitoto Island and the Waitemata Harbour. The site blends heritage architecture with contemporary learning spaces and is close to Devonport's amenities with a short ferry ride to Auckland's CBD.
Playing fields are on the campus as part of the sports facilities. A dedicated Sports Department coordinates the school's sporting programme, working with committees and the community to deliver programmes across sport.
The school provides two academic curricula: NCEA and the IB Diploma. It was the first state school in New Zealand to be approved to offer the IB.
The school offers a wide range of co-curricular clubs, including Chess Club, Spanish Club, Esports Club, Craft Club, Debate Competition, and Carpentry Extension - Boatbuilding. The Chess Club meets weekly in the library, with its Premier Team qualifying for the National Interschool Championships. The Performing Arts program includes theatre, dance, and music, with two auditioned Dance Companies (Cactus Dance and Tempus Dance), bands and choirs, and itinerant music lessons.
